Hi! I’m Alex Lehning, MA (he/him), and I provide psychotherapy to adults from all backgrounds. I am also a consultant for nonprofits and organizations.

I am a neurodivergent rostered psychotherapist (and Scorpio!) who brings a compassionate and human-centered approach to my work with clients.

I have also been a staff member, volunteer, and board member at non-profits for over a decade, and I personally know how hard it is to separate our personal and professional identities and center self-care over self-sacrifice.

Currently, I am a VT Rostered Psychotherapist & Clinical Mental Health Intern completing my MA in Counseling at Vermont State University in May 2025. I also serve as the Executive Director of a Vermont nonprofit.

Outside of my practice, I play music and games and am a suicide prevention volunteer.

  • Birches are beautiful, resilient trees. What makes them this way are their imperfections. Birches can survive the coldest of temperatures, and they are the first trees to return when wiped out by glaciers. Like the birch, we all have the capacity to mend ourselves, to grow, to begin again. Of course, mending is a fraught process, one in which we must pay attention to the most vulnerable parts of ourselves. It is only when we accept those broken, vulnerable parts that healing and hope emerge. Let us together mend what is broken to become the most authentic version of ourselves.

  • Please contact me for self-pay rates. For counseling, I accept Medicaid or self-pay (including Health Savings Accounts [HSAs]).

  • We start with talk therapy; and through a collaborative process, we identify your strengths and values and bring these to the forefront. Our work together might include techniques like writing and drawing, mindfulness practices, oracle cards, and a shared exploration of your inner world and systems. You, the client, are the expert—not me the counselor! My goal is to create a supportive, inclusive, welcoming environment for you to heal and mend.

We will spend time together to explore what’s happening on your inside. Together, we will help you strengthen your sense of self and self-energy, who you are at your core. You will cultivate greater understanding of what makes you who you are and integrate it with your various parts and pieces. Everyone’s self is worthy!
